Report: Blackburn Rovers 1 Blues 1
Blues had to settle for a point as they were held to a 1-1 draw by Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
Lukas Jutkiewicz's early penalty was cancelled out by Danny Graham's strike on the stroke of half-time.
Gianfranco Zola's side got off to a flying start and were ahead after just three minutes, courtesy of a Jutkiewicz penalty.
After David Cotterill was brought down by Rovers 'keeper Jason Steele, Jutkiewicz saw his penalty squeeze in after it first looked like Steele had kept it out.
Blues didn't sit back and looked good value for their lead and should have gone further ahead, Cotterill, Che Adams and Jonathan Grounds all going close, with Cotterill having the pick of the chances, but was denied by Steele.
The hosts did fight their way back into the match. Hope Akpan with their first effort which Tomasz Kuszczak, in the process of saving, received a boot to the face that would later force him off.
It looked as though Blues were to head in at the interval a goal to the good, but in the third minute of stoppage-time Danny Graham levelled the match.
After seeing two previous efforts miss the target, it was third time luck for Graham who fired home Derrick Williams' low cross.
Blues started the second-half brightly, as they did the first and went close through Cotterill. The winger cutting in from the left and seeing his effort flash just wide of the goal.
Moments later and Adams' drive across goal was nearly turned home by Jutkiewicz, but the striker, on the stretch couldn't get anything on it.
Jutkiewicz's blushes were spared by the linesman's flag halfway through the half. The striker shooting an effort wide from inside the six-yard box, luckily for him, it wouldn't have counted.
As the match wore on, it became stretched with both teams having chances to take all three points.
Sam Gallagher having the hosts best chance, but he fired his effort over the top of Adam Legzdins goal - who replaced Tomasz Kuszczak at the interval.
For Blues, it was Ryan Shotton who had their best chance. The defender getting his head on the end of a Craig Gardner cross from the left, forcing Steele into a superb save late on.
Kerim Frei made his debut when he replaced Cotterill, showing some glimpses of what he can do the ball.
A frustrating result for Zola's side after they started and finished the game the stronger side.
