Report: Norwich City 2 Blues 0

It was a frustrating afternoon for Gianfranco Zola's side as they were beaten 2-0 at Carrow Road.

First-half goals from Cameron Jerome and Timm Klose sealed the win for the Canaries.

Emilio Nsue and Kerim Frei both came in for their first starts for Zola's side; Robert Tesche also returned to the starting XI as the manager made three changes from last week's draw at Ewood Park.

Both sides started brightly bringing both 'keepers into action early on through Lukas Jutkiewicz and Cameron Jerome.

After a quarter of an hour, 30-seconds shaped the rest of the match as Blues were a matter of inches away from taking the lead but instead found themselves a goal down immediately after.

An unmarked Lukas Jutkiewicz saw his powerful header crash against John Ruddy's crossbar, moments later the ball was in the back of the Blues net after a quick break from the hosts was calmly finished by Jerome.

Blues went close through Gardner after 20 minutes when he headed over, but it was the Canaries who looked more likely to extend their lead.

Steven Naismith saw his effort fire over the top and Johnny Howson was denied by a brilliant save by Tomasz Kuszczak at his near post.

Two minutes before the break and Norwich did double their advantage. Robbie Brady's inswinging free-kick from the right was headed home by an unmarked Timm Klose.

Blues came out for the second-half with more urgency and enjoyed more play in Norwich's half but couldn't quite put a finishing touches to their play.

Gardner tried his luck from distance, only to see his effort fire wide before Kuszczak was brought into action again by Murphy at his near post.

Blues had some half-chances. Jutkiewicz saw a header fall just wide as he couldn't quite get the power he'd have hoped for.

Kerim Frei also saw Ruddy get down well to his effort after cutting in from the left.

As Blues looked to force a way back into the game Norwich looked threatening on the counter and should have added to their lead.

Naismith spurned chances to put the game to bed, blasting wide and seeing a header find the arms of Kuszczak.

Jerome had the best chance to finish the match off, only to be denied by a superb sprawling save by Kuszczak late on.

In stoppage-time Gardner had Blues' best effort of the second 45 minutes when his 30-yard strike struck the crossbar.

A frustrating afternoon for Zola's side, with a huge turning point in the first-half.
