Three Birmingham City Ladies players have been called into the England squad for the UEFA Women’s European Championship Finals in Sweden next month.
Laura Bassett, Jade Moore and Karen Carney have all been named by England head coach Hope Powell in her final 23-woman squad
Midfielder Carney is the most experienced of the three Blues Ladies with 81 caps to her name. A mainstay of the England side for more than eight years, she has recently returned to full fitness after recovering from an injury she sustained playing for the Three Lions in the Cyprus Cup in January. The injury meant that she has yet to figure for Blues Ladies so far this season.
Blues Ladies captain Bassett has represented her country 29 times and Moore just four times.
The finals run from 1 July – 29 July, with England playing all three of their group games in the Swedish city of Linkoping. They open their campaign against Spain on 12 July, before taking on Russia on 15 July and France on 18 July.
The Three Lions were unbeaten in their qualifying fixtures for the tournament.
