The first-team squad were back at Wast Hills today following a much shorter summer break than normal.
"The players have come back in terrific condition," said the Blues boss. "They've worked extremely hard on the first day and they look in very good shape. There hasn't been much of a break because of the season starting earlier."
Amongst the players out on the pitches were a number of new signings - Andrew Shinnie, Lee Novak, Neal Eardley and Olly Lee.
Clark is confident that they will soon be joined by at least two more defenders, and he confirmed that former loanees Ravel Morrison and Shane Ferguson remain on the radar.
"I have agreed terms with two players and two Premier League clubs to take a right-sided centre-half and a left-sided centre-half on season-long loans,” he said.
"Those deals are subject to medicals when the lads get back off their holidays, as Premier League teams aren't due back for 10 days to two weeks. But I hope to have those completed next week because of the agreements with the players and the clubs are in place. It's just down to them coming through the medicals. I have spoken to both players and I will be delighted to get them.
"We’re also still in dialogue with Newcastle United and West Ham regards Shane Ferguson and Ravel Morrison which I would really like to do, but we’ve got to see."
Darren Randolph and Nathan Redmond have been given additional time off because of international duties with the Republic of Ireland and England under-21s respectively, although Clark confirmed there had been a lot of interest in Redmond from other clubs.
Meanwhile David Murphy and Will Packwood are making excellent progress following their long-term injuries and are expected to rejoin the main group within the next couple of weeks.
