Birmingham City Ladies finished their season on a high on Sunday with a 3-0 victory against Doncaster Belles at the Keepmoat Stadium.

The win also saw Blues leapfrog Everton Ladies to finish in fourth place in the league overall.

Doncaster started strongly with Sue Smith breaking into the area just two minutes after the kick-off, but her efforts were thwarted by a strong defence and quick thinking by Blues keeper Mary Earps.

Six minutes in and Leandra Little threatened Blues with two more attempts on goal; one going wide and the other over the post.

However, Blues' attacking play culminated in the opening goal just before half-time as Laura Bassett's excellent cross reached Katie Wilkinson, and Wilkinson made no mistake in firing the ball home.

Doncaster started brightly after the break and looked threatening, but Blues were equally dangerous going forward and Wilkinson came close with an effort which struck the post.

Blues' hard work finally paid dividends after 71 minutes when Isobel Christiansen made the most of the space afforded to her on the edge of the box before driving the ball past Doncaster stopper Nicola Davies to give her side a two-goal advantage.

With just a minute remaining, Emily Simpkins capped off a fine Blues performance by drilling home an unstoppable long-range shot.

Blues Ladies will now turn their attentions to the Champions League when they face Finnish Champions, PK-35 Vantaa away in the opening leg of the Champions League on Wednesday 9 October, 2013 (6.30pm kick-off). The return leg will then be played at Stratford Town FC on Wednesday 16 October, 2013 (2pm kick-off).
