Lee Clark gives his thoughts on another successful and entertaining evening at St. Andrew’s.

Lee Clark on his side’s positive play from the off…

“Apart from a loose spell for 15 minutes in the second-half when we got a bit sloppy, we were at it for the whole game.

“What’s pleased us as well has been the clean sheet. I’m an attack-minded manager and I love my teams to entertain but I just feel that we’ve got so many match winners at the top end of the field that if we can keep more clean sheets than not this season we’ve got lads who can produce a little bit of magic and score a goal.

Clark on David Murphy’s two goals and his outstanding performance…

“I’ve said all along that I think he’s the best left-back outside the Premier League. He seems to be enjoying his football.

“I think you see things a little bit differently when you’ve had a long-term injury and had those lonely days with just you and the physio. I think he’s enjoying having the young lads around him. The first goal he took with aplomb when he just controlled it and put it in and the second one was a fantastic finish.”

Clark on his decision to go with a 4-2-3-1 formation…

“I’ve seen the way Millwall have been playing, but also Andrew Shinnie has been magnificent in the last couple of weeks in training.

“I couldn’t get him in the team with the way we were playing and getting results. I just felt today I wanted good little footballers all over the pitch at the top end. So I had Burke, Shinnie and Lingard playing off the striker and I gave them the freedom. I said to the three of them to go wherever they wanted to go and cause havoc and get on the ball and attack people, as long as when they lost it they got a good shape between the three of them.

“And I felt that we needed that tonight as well because Millwall play a deep back line and there’s not much room to get in behind so you have to play passing movements to get through them and it worked.”

Clark on Shinnie’s contribution...

“I thought he was excellent. I said to him before the game to just give me what he has been in training and keep producing that level of performance and that will be good enough for me. If he keeps playing like that the goals will come as well.

“He’s a terrific technician and he’s been a little bit unlucky in terms of the way we’ve played and the system.”

Clark on entertaining the fans…

“It’s a tough one as a manager because I keep saying week in and week out that this team has delivered much better performances after ten games than I had last year, although we probably ended up having more points last year after ten games .

“I was absolutely delighted because I’ve been desperate to deliver performances for the home fans and I think in the last three home games we’ve delivered performances of the highest level and scored 11 goals and could have scored more."
