Blues’ development squad beat Coventry City 2-1 at their Sky Blue Lodge training ground on Monday afternoon.

Goals from Scott Allan and Liam Truslove, either side of a fine strike by Ryan Quinn for the hosts, were enough to secure the victory.

Blues started brightly and should have been in front after just five minutes but Matt Green couldn’t convert his headed effort.

The visitors did break the deadlock after 12 minutes. Scott Allan raced onto a loose ball on the edge of the area, rounded the Coventry goalkeeper and slotted the ball into the empty net.

However, the Sky Blues pulled themselves level before the break through Ryan Quinn. The midfielder worked a yard for himself before bending an unstoppable effort past Nick Townsend from 20 yards.

Blues took control of the game after the break and were unlucky not to restore their lead on the hour. Allan picked out Reece Brown with a clever reverse pass and he forced a brilliant save from the home keeper.

The winning goal came 10 minutes from time after some fine work from Koby Arthur. The 17-year-old weaved his way into the penalty area before hitting a powerful effort at goal that fell kindly for Liam Truslove to stab home.

Blues starting XI: Townsend; Higgins, Mullins, Kelly, Bell; Soloman-Otabor, Truslove, Brown, Arthur, Allan; Green.

Subs: Preston, Moseley, Adams, Webb, Hales.
