Laura Bassett has departed Blues Ladies having opted to not renew her contract with the FA Women’s Super League club.

The 30-year-old England international was an integral part of a Blues side that secured successive FA WSL and Continental Cup runners-up spots, as well as the highlight of lifting the 2012 FA Women’s Cup.

The captain’s second spell at the club ended on a high this week with progression to the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-finals following a 5-2 second-leg victory over FK Zorkiy Krasnogorsk at St. Andrew’s.

Bassett has chosen to seek a fresh challenge elsewhere and the club would like to take this opportunity to thank her for her tremendous service and wish her well for the future.

Nuneaton-born Bassett began her career with Coventry City Ladies before joining Blues for her first spell in 2000. After an eight year period, which included a loan spell with New York Magic, Bassett joined Arsenal Ladies for a season before a year-long spell at Leeds Carnegie Ladies.

She then returned to the second city for the inaugural FA WSL campaign and has to date 33 senior caps for England.
