Lee Clark and Lee Novak react to today's 1-1 draw with Blackpool

Lee Clark's thoughts on today’s game...

“I thought we started the game brightly, following on from Huddersfield, and got the goal but then just lost a bit of concentration and focus. We started to give the ball away really cheaply and I felt that was a big factor today. We struggled to get any momentum in terms of forward play because some simple passes were given straight back to the opposition. There is a lot of work to be done this week on that, but I can’t fault the players for their effort and application. They’ve fought and battled and took on board what I said after the last home game, which is if you can’t win it, then don’t lose it. We’ve certainly done that today and it’s got a bit open at the end with chances at both ends really. All in all, it’s disappointing because we want to take three points and I felt after the start we’d had that it was there for the taking.”

Clark on taking four points from the last two games...

“I haven’t been disappointed on what the players have given me on many occasions this season. There have been one or two incidences, of course. But I’ve just thanked them because I think they’ve given me everything in terms of work-rate, effort, attitude and application today. We just need to brush up on certain areas, such as keeping the ball better – it’s what we work on all the time in training because it’s what I want my team to do; pass the ball. We’ve just got to keep believing and moving in the right direction. We’ve got to go to Barnsley next and produce a performance to get a result there.”

Clark on debutants Dariusz Dudka and Aaron McLean...

“I think they showed little flashes. They’ll be better for it. Dariusz needs a bit of time in terms of fitness levels but I think we’ve seen some of the quality he has on the ball. It’s a completely new game to him in English football, the tempo and speed of how the game’s played, so he needs to get used to that. Aaron only came yesterday and he’s met the lads for a 45-minute session. As he gets to know us better and we get to know him better, it’ll be easier for us.”

Lee Novak on his bad luck in front of goal...

“I was away celebrating; I thought it was in. Everyone on the bench said they were up as well. I don’t know where he’s (Tyler Blackett) come from, I never saw him. It’s just one of those things. We didn’t start the best in the second-half but we were putting a lot of pressure on towards the end. I had that one cleared off the line, twice, and then hit the bar. It wasn’t meant to be, we weren’t able to get the three points. But if we couldn’t get the three points, we were going to get the point.”

Novak on holding fourth-placed Blackpool to a draw...

“We’ve more than matched a team that are right up there and probably will be at the end of the season. We’ve proved what a good team we are.”
