The Reaction: Blues 2 Middlesbrough 2

Blues boss Lee Clark gives his verdict on his side’s draw against Middlesbrough at St. Andrew’s.

Lee Clark on his side scoring a last gasp equaliser…
“It shows the character they have as a young group and shows a never give up attitude.

“I thought we started the game quite brightly and caused them one or two problems, but then they scored a disappointing goal from our point of view and it just seemed the confidence and belief of my players started draining for whatever reason.

“I spoke to them at half-time and said if the worst case scenario is going to happen and we lose the game, then let’s go down fighting and put Middlesbrough under some intense pressure.”

Clark on Chris Burke’s introduction at the break…
“Chris Burke changed the game in our favour and we started the second half-really well. But then we conceded another goal and we’re staring down the barrel going in to injury time.

“Fortunately Kyle Bartley has come up with the goods again with a great header from a set play. When he attacks the ball like that it’s very difficult for anyone to mark him.”

Clark on his side's defending for the second Middlesbrough goal…
“There were some errors that we weren’t too pleased about. When you clear it that far out the box you’d like to get out a bit higher and have the opposition offside.

“We were still quite deep from the second ball when it came in. It could have knocked the stuffing out of us and deflated us but the lads responded well and they kicked on again and they didn’t give up.”

Clark on making it five games unbeaten…
“It’s a good little run and shows solidarity and we’re having a go for each other. We would love to win, but when you’re going into injury time a goal behind you’ll take a point.

“Not losing football matches breeds confidence and having fighting spirit is a key component in winning games so let’s go to a tough place in Bournemouth next week and try and go for that win.”

Clark on Mitch Hancox’s injury...
“Mitch has a knee in jury but we’re not too sure how bad it is. He’s lying on the bed getting assessed by the medical team so I don’t really want to speculate on it.

“I’m glad he flagged it up quickly because if it is something serious we don’t want more damage done.”
