Macheda makes it a Red Devil hat-trick

Posted: Fri 31 Jan 2014

Striker Federico Macheda has joined Birmingham City on loan from Barclays Premier League side Manchester United until the end of the season.

The Italian striker is the third United player to make the switch to St. Andrew's, following the deadline day arrivals of Tyler Blackett and Tom Thorpe earlier today.

The 22-year-old Rome-born front-man has been with the Red Devils since 2008 and has made 36 appearances for his parent club to date.

Over the past five years the former Italy U21 international has spent time out on loan with Sampdoria, Queens Park Rangers and VfB Stuttgart. Most recently he was at Sky Bet Championship side Doncaster Rovers, where he made 15 appearances and scored three goals between last September and 1 January this year.

Kiko, as Macheda is nicknamed, is a powerful striker with excellent positional sense and has a clinical finish.

He takes the number nine shirt, with no recall option in place, and will be eligible to play for Blues against Derby County tomorrow (3pm kick-off).
