Following the recent launch of Blues Academy Grassroots Association, the next club under the spotlight is Rednal-based Santiago Colts.

The original Santiago Colts FC was formed in 1978 to enable leavers from two local schools, St. James and St. Columbas, to maintain their friendships as they dispersed to different secondary schools. It was a one team club that played for five years until its members reached the age of 16, winning several trophies on the way.

The club was reformed in 2003 with a new squad of 11-year-olds. This time with the intention to broaden its appeal through development of a multi-team structure from seven to 16 age groups.

Under the watchful eyes of the committee, and with the support of the original team's founders, the aim was to take Santiago Colts FC to FA Charter Standard and provide a key playing opportunity for local young footballers keen to develop their skills within a safe and organised environment.

Santiago Colts are proud of the fact they were awarded FA Charter Standard status in October 2003. Their intention now is to keep building the club with the hope of reaching the status of an FA Charter Standard Development Club.

We are now a Chartered Standard Development Club, we have 21 teams covering all age groups, and we are also leasing a new playing field from Bromsgrove Council.

We have continued to win trophies over the years; in 2013/14 our U11 All-stars won the CWYFL Premier Division and the Open Cup, whilst our U10 Crusaders won Group 'H'.

Each year we also form a reception group of four and five-year-olds to secure the future of the club.
