Official: Birmingham City sign David Edgar

Blues have today completed the signing of former Burnley and Newcastle United defender David Edgar.

The 27-year-old defender has joined the club on a two-year contract.

Standing six feet four inches tall, the Canada international can play in a range of defensive positions, as well as in midfield. 

Born in the Canadian city of Kitchener to an English father, he began his footballing career as 14-year-old with Newcastle, before later turning professional and making his debut for the Magpies in December 2006. 

Having made 23 appearances for Newcastle he left St James' Park in July 2009 to link-up with Burnley on a four-year deal.

During a four year spell with Burnley, Edgar made a total of 115 appearances and scored three goals. He also a spent a spell out on loan at Swansea City towards the end of the 2009/10 season.

Last season he made 21 appearances for the Clarets during their promotion-winning campaign to the Barclays Premier League.

Edgar, who has 23 senior caps for Canada to his name, becomes Lee Clark's fifth summer signing after Jonathan Grounds, Grant Hall, Stephen Gleeson and Wes Thomas.
