Blues team news ahead of Preston test

Posted: Mon 13 Feb 2017

Gianfranco Zola hopes to have Robert Tesche available for Tuesday evening's away trip to Preston North End.

The central midfielder (pictured) missed Friday's match against Sheffield Wednesday because of a slight ankle injury, but looks to have recovered sufficiently to be included.

His availability is important, because David Davis starts a two-game ban after collecting his tenth caution of the season at Hillsborough.

"It is a blow because David is an important player and has always played in the team," said the Blues boss.

"We will have to make up for him missing but I am sure there will be another player coming in that will do their best.

"But hopefully Robert Tesche should be fit, which is good news."

Meanwhile, winger Jacques Maghoma has suffered a minor set-back with his recovery from a knee injury and a trio of other senior players remain unavailable.

"Maghoma has had a little set-back, we were trying to push him forward in training and he still feels the knee," confirmed Zola.

"I don't think it will be this week, possibly the next one

"[Michael] Morrison is going to be a few more weeks as he is still recovering from the [hernia]operation.

"Ryan [Shotton, groin] shouldn't be too far away. Maybe next week.

"Clayton [Donaldson, heel] is still three weeks away as far as I know."
