Blues Under-23s recorded a resounding away victory against their Cardiff City counterparts at Vale Park on Monday afternoon.

The Blues goals were spread around the side, with Greg Stewart, David Popa, Viv Solomon-Otabor and Reece Brown all finding the back of the net for the visitors.

Stewart (pictured) who was one of Blues' three over-age players in the starting line-up, fired his team into a 20th minute lead with a curling effort from outside the area.

The forward then turned provider for Popa, who doubled Blues' advantage from inside the box ten minutes before the half-time break.

Just after the hour-mark Solomon-Otabor put the game beyond the reach of the hosts , when he took advantage of a Cardiff City mistake before charging on into the box and unleashing a great shot into the top corner.

With Cardiff pushing forward in an attempt to give the score some semblance of respectability, Blues struck on the break and Brown capped off an impressive performance by the visitors with a 75th minute goal.

"We played really well and the scoreline was a fair reflection of the play," said Blues Development Squad Coach Richard Beale.

"Cardiff probably only had one half-chance and we had several other chances to score more goals, but unfortunately couldn't take them.

"It was a good all-round performance and everybody put a good shift in and worked hard.

"What was really pleasing was the fact that we kept a clean sheet and held a really good solid shape and we denied Cardiff any real chances."

Recent signings Rhoys Wiggins and Greg Stewart was both given just over an hour of game time before being substituted.

And according to Beale, they both impressed against the Bluebirds.

"Greg was really lively," continued Beale.

"He played off David Popa at the front. Blues fans probably just think he's a winger but he showed that he's equally adept at finding space and getting shots off from there and being a real menace to them.

"Rhoys also played very well and looked to get forward.

"He put a couple of great crosses in and looked an accomplished left-back."
