Young Blues striker Akwasi Asante has signed a new one-year contract, with a further one-year option.

The 20-year-old is now fully focused on making his mark with Lee Clark's squad next season having endured a frustrating spell with injury during the 2012/13 campaign.

Asante, who made his first-team debut against CD Nacional in the UEFA Europa League in August 2011, missed almost five months of action having torn a hamstring playing for Blues U21s in October. The Dutch-born Blues Academy graduate was then loaned out to Shrewsbury Town during the closing weeks of the season and found the net against Portsmouth on the final day of the season.

The pacy forward also previously enjoyed a loan spell at Northampton Town in January 2012 but is now striving to make the step up with his parent club.

A full BluesTV interview with Asante on his ambitions for the 2013/14 season will follow on bcfc.com.
