Fond memory of Carling Cup victory scores Eze Memories win

Posted: Fri 25 Mar 2016

Blues season ticket holder Louise Hopson is the latest winner of Eze Memories, a competition to celebrate Birmingham City Football Club’s 140th anniversary.

Louise, from Castle Bromwich, shared her favourite Blues recollection, which tells the story of the team’s 2-1 victory against Arsenal, in the 2011 League Cup final.

For the best memory submitted in February, Louise won a VIP experience at St. Andrew’s.

She said: “History was made on 27 February 2011, at Wembley. Before kick-off, many had already written us off. We were playing Arsenal. We were just there for a good day out.”

Louise describes the atmosphere surrounding the first goal by Nikola Zigic; the Arsenal equaliser; and the game-changing second goal at the 89th minute, by Obafemi Martins.

“When Stephen Carr raised the Carling Cup, it was the finest moment in Blues’ history. Highlights from that day send shivers down my spine.”

The Eze Memories campaign is run by Blues principal partner and main shirt sponsor Eze Group.

Her win meant that Louise and dad John Hopson enjoyed a recent Blues victory from the comfort of the Eze Group box.
She has also received a personalised tile on the iconic ‘Blues Wall of Fame’ outside St. Andrew’s.
