In the third of a series of weekly blogs on USN's Body Makeover Challenge, Football Administration Assistant, Brett Baker, details how he's getting to grips with the lifestyle change.
"Why did I agree to do the USN Body Makeover Challenge?
I love desserts (full fat), sausage sandwiches, beer, chips, pizza....you get where I am going with this don't you! However I am also competitive and love to win, so when this was suggested in the office I was 'in' straight away.
I have always exercised in some way or another, primarily playing football, rugby or going to the gym. For Christmas though my wife bought me a home workout program called Insanity - which is tagged as 60 days of, wait for it, exercise based insanity! Sounds a bit cheesy, and not something I would have chosen myself, but have been surprised by it. The workouts are tough, though rewarding the further you get into the program.
It is with this in mind that you need all the support you can get to keep going, and I could not have received any more than that provided by the USN team. The supplement shakes are vital to keep your energy levels up and hunger pains away, plus the nutritional advice they gave has really made a difference........walnuts have now become my number one choice for a snack that is 'nut-based' ( for those of you interested it used to be cashews and then almonds, what a schoolboy error).
For me the USN challenge has arrived at the perfect time, as it has gone 'hand in hand' with the workout program I am currently sweating through. At the moment it is week six, with another six to go. Therefore I would appreciate it if you could not eat a cream cake, drink a nice cold beer, or munch on a chocolate digestive in my presence between now and the end of March!"
