ESPN have chosen Blues Ladies’ FA WSL August Bank Holiday fixture at home to Bristol Academy as one of their live games.
The fixture will be the first at Stratford Town’s DCS Stadium to attract the live ESPN cameras and has now moved to Monday 27 August (7.30pm kick-off) to accommodate the coverage.
The clash between the two teams, who currently sit in joint-second place in the race for a Champions League place, should make for a competitive encounter in front of a packed bank holiday crowd.
With media coverage and TV audiences elevating the profile of game in the UK following Team GB Women’s exploits, all eyes will be on the FA WSL to keep momentum post-Olympics and ensure fans keep following the players that have inspired the nation.
Blues Ladies boss David Parker said: "We are delighted that ESPN have decided to broadcast our home game live against Bristol on Bank Holiday Monday.
“This is an historic day for our club in that it will be the first time we have had a live game at our home stadium. For the fans it will also give them a chance to come and support our returning players from the Olympics and our push for Champions League qualification in 2013.
“With the buzz that Team GB has created around the sport this summer, it would be great to see these bumper crowds continue.
“ Last season the game between Bristol and ourselves was screened live on ESPN and it proved to be the game of the season, hopefully for the fans it turns out to be the same again."
Blues Ladies will formally welcome back their trio of Olympians – Karen Carney, Eni Aluko and Rachel Williams – on Sunday 19 August (2pm kick-off) as they play host to Lincoln Ladies.
However, before that, Parker’s side will welcome Coventry City Ladies for a warm-up fixture at Stratford this Sunday (12 August, 2pm kick-off).
Admission details for that game can be found here.
