Giovanni Trapattoni's side host Germany at the Aviva Stadium in Dublin on October 12 before taking on the Faroe Islands at the Tórsvøllur Stadium in Tórshavn on October 16.
The Blues midfielder recently returned to playing action following his recovery from a groin injury that he picked up whilst away with Ireland in the build-up to the Euro 2012 Championships in the summer.
The 29-year-old Dubliner will be looking to add to his 15 senior caps.
Boss Trapattoni told the Republic of Ireland's official website: "As we face these important games, we will hope to build on the three points we gained in Kazakhstan.
"Our first game against Germany will be a difficult challenge and the home support will play an important part. We must also remember that we have two matches, and we will be focusing on every detail to pick up points on our journey to qualification for Brazil.”
