Having lost their last two league fixtures, Development Squad boss Richard Beale was eager for his side to deliver a performance at The Terriers' Canalside training ground and they obliged.
Beale had filled all three overage berths by naming Lovenkrands, Darren Ambrose and Morgaro Gomis in his starting XI, while handing an U21s debut to 17-year-old goalkeeper Callum Preston.
Fresh from his first-team debut on Easter Monday, Arthur fired the visitors in front with a classy long-range effort on the quarter-of-an-hour mark.
Higgins burst into the Huddersfield box from the right in the 23rd minute to blast a shot across the goalkeeper and double Blues' advantage.
The hosts pegged one back in the 41st minute when Godwin Abadaki spun his marker and finished from 12 yards.
However Blues's two-goal cushion was restored before the break when Arthur set up Lovenkrands for a tap in.
The away side's backline went on to stand up to some second-half pressure from Huddersfield, which particularly pleased Beale.
"It was an improved performance from all the lads following on from the defeat at Leeds," Beale told bcfc.com. "The defence was much more resolute and showed more of a desire to keep the ball out of the net.
"While ultimately we weren't able to keep a clean sheet, our outfield quality meant we were able to score three well-taken goals and overall I'm very pleased."
One other highlight was the introduction of scholar Viv Soloman-Otabor in the 75th minute who, along with Preston, was also making his first appearance for the U21s.
Blues U21s: Callum Preston, Ryan Higgins, Amari'i Bell (Graham Hutchison H/T), Olly Lee, Jack Deaman, Emmitt Delfouneso, Koby Arthur, Morgaro Gomis (Eddy Gnahore 70), Peter Lovenkrands, Reece Hales (Viv Soloman-Otabor 75), Darren Ambrose.
