It was a resounding win for the DCS Stadium outfit – their third victory on the bounce.
A nine minute spell of defensive madness in each half helped Blues’ cause, the first seeing them take the lead, the second sending the visitors out of sight.
It wasn’t all plain sailing for David Parker’s team, however, as Michelle Evans stunned them on four minutes with a speculative long range volley that looped over a stranded Marie Hourihan.
And midway through the first-half Kelly Jones should have doubled Liverpool’s lead, but she blazed over from six yards out.
Moments later Rachel Williams struck twice in two minutes to turn the match dramatically on its head, allowing Birmingham to take control until the interval.
The second period was nip and tuck until just after the hour mark when the Reds committed a second major defensive lapse to end the contest. Jodie Taylor and Eni Aluko took full advantage to score within seconds of each other and put Blues out of sight.
Williams completed her hat-trick with a bullet header on 76 minutes, while Kelly Jones grabbed a consolation goal for the hosts seven minutes from time.
Ladies boss Parker hailed the win and refused to rule out his charges title chances.
He said: “We keep battling away. Anyone can throw out a result so we’ll keep going, focus on our own games and if we get a little favour from another team we’ll take that.”
