Nathan Redmond has been handed a late call-up to the England Under-21s squad for the UEFA European Championship in Israel.
The 19-year-old star replaces Andros Townsend in Stuart Pearce’s 23-man party after the former Blues loanee withdrew from the squad.
Redmond ended the npower Championship season in impressive form for Blues and had been set to represent the U20s at the FIFA U20s World Cup in July.
But he will now join up with the U21 squad, which also includes fellow Blues Academy graduate Jack Butland, for the first time at a training camp in Turkey on Monday.
England begin this year’s finals against Italy in Tel Aviv on June 5 and also take on hosts Israel and Norway in the group stage of the competition.
