Birmingham City Football Club is saddened to hear of the death of former player Steve Fox.

Steve has passed away at the age of just 54, following a battle against lung cancer.

Born in Tamworth, the combative winger joined Blues as an apprentice in 1975 before turning professional in February 1976.

He made his Football League debut for Blues in February 1977 after coming on as a substitute in the 2-1 away defeat at West Bromwich Albion.

Over the following two years he made a total of 29 appearances for the club and scored a solitary goal.

He was sold to Wrexham in December 1978 and later went on to have spells with Port Vale, Chester City, Llangollen, Tamworth and Rhyl Athletic.

Steve leaves a wife, Helen, and two sons, Matthew and Daniel.
