Demari Gray showed a great piece of individual skill to open the scoring for Blues after just 17 minutes when he chipped the ball over two defenders, before firing the ball past goalkeeper.
Foday Nabay then doubled his side’s advantage from close range just before the half-hour mark after he latched onto a deflected free kick.
In what was an open encounter, both sides had a number additional chances. Blues keeper Callum Preston (pictured) put in a fine performance to deny the hosts with some key saves.
Academy coach Steve Spooner was extremely happy with side’s performance and felt that goalkeeper Preston was a key player.
“I was delighted to see us come away with a clean sheet again,” said Spooner. “A lot of credit for that was down to good goalkeeping by Callum Preston who made two terrific saves early on including one in the first 30 seconds and a one-on-one.
“After withstanding the early pressure we created numerous chances ourselves and scored twice. I was delighted with the overall standard of play from the players.
“Their passing and movement was very good and there was a good understanding of the tactical side of the game as well, in terms of defensive shape in and out of possession.”
