Blues defender Will Packwood today underwent surgery on his badly broken left leg.

The American teenager fractured his tibia and fibula after landing awkwardly in the second-half of yesterday’s 1-1 draw at Elland Road.

The 19-year-old was successfully operated on in Leeds General Infirmary this morning and it's hoped he will be transferred to Spire Little Aston Hospital in Sutton Coldfield tomorrow afternoon to begin his recovery.

The initial indication is that Packwood is likely to be sidelined for at least nine months.

The club has been inundated with well-wishes since yesterday from football supporters up and down the country and back in Packwood’s homeland.

This hasn’t gone unnoticed by the player himself who tweeted: “Thank you to everybody for all the support I've received! It means so much to me to have you all behind me.”
