Colin Calderwood joined Blues on November 24, 2011 as assistant manager to Chris Hughton.
The link-up was the third time that Calderwood and Hughton had worked together.
Hughton was assistant manager at Spurs when Calderwood was a player. The pair were also reunited at Newcastle United when he was Hughton's assistant during his tenure at the Magpies.
Calderwood has previously worked with Hughton at Tottenham and Newcastle.
On the playing side, he is a former defender who has 36 Scotland caps to his name.
During a 19-year playing career with Mansfield, Swindon, Spurs, Forest and Notts County, he made more than 600 appearances.
After hanging up his boots in 2001, Calderwood moved into the management side of the game.
He took charge of Northampton Town in 2003 and after twice coming close to promotion he took them up at the third attempt in 2006.
His success with the Cobblers saw him snapped up by Nottingham Forest and he was successful in clinching another promotion with the Reds in 2008.
He left the City Ground in December 2008 and moved to Newcastle as first team coach alongside Hughton, where the duo were responsible for leading the Magpies back to the Premier League at the first time of asking.
After a year on Tyneside, Calderwood moved north of the border to take up the position of first team manager at SPL side Hibernian, and led them to tenth place in the Scottish Premier League in 2010/11 before leaving the Easter Road outfit at the start of November, 2011.
