STRENGTH IN UNITT-Y
Blues Ladies have confirmed the capture of England left-back Rachel Unitt from Everton Ladies. The Walsall-born defender has been described as a world-class acquisition by Blues Ladies boss David Parker and provides a further boost ahead of the start of the FA Women's Super League. The 29-year-old began her career at Wolves Woman before enjoying two spells at Everton Ladies either side of stints at Fulham Ladies, American outfit New Jersey Wildcats and Leeds City Vixens. Vastly-experienced Unitt, who made her senior international debut in August 2000, is currently closing in on her 100th England cap. Unitt's arrival comes shortly after the resigning of homegrown star and fellow England international Eniola Aluko. "We are absolutely delighted to have Rachel at the club," enthused Parker. "She has proven herself to be the best left-back in the country and one of the best in world football over the years. Her addition will add undoubted quality and experience to an already strong squad for the 2012 season.
"Over the past 10 years she has established herself as a main stay in the England national team and will hopefully hit a landmark by gaining her 100th cap in the upcoming Cyprus Cup. "One the main ambitions of the football club at the start of the Super League was to acquire local internationals and players the fans could identify with. "Adding Rachel as well as Eni Aluko to the squad this season outlines our intentions, not just for the league campaign, but to set ourselves as club that can challenge on the European stage." Meanwhile Dunia Susi has left the club and returned to Chelsea Ladies for the 2012 campaign. Londoner Susi spent 2011 with Blues and moves back to the capital with everybody's best wishes for the rest of her career. Follow Blues Ladies on Twitter - http://www.twitter.com/birmcitylfc
