Blues U18's secured their third consecutive clean sheet at the weekend as they beat their Watford counterparts 2-0.

Both Blues goals came in the second half, courtesy of a Luke Hubbins header and a late Jack Rutter penalty.

And the youngsters' victory was well deserved, according to Academy coach Steve Spooner.

"It was a very encouraging performance and a fantastic result," said Spooner,

"The three particularly pleasing things me were that once again we played three 16-year-olds, we kept yet another cleansheet and some of our football was very good at times - the passing, movement and retention of the ball.

"Luke Hubbins scored the first goal midway through the second half.

"It was a fantastic cross from Jamie Sheldon and Luke got in between the full back and the centre half at the far post and he just powered the ball home with a header.

"The second one came right at the end of the game when Jack Rutter converted a penalty after Shane Williams had been pulled back.

"Watford are a good side but on the day I think we edged it and were the better team overall and created more chances.

"Our goalkeeper Jack Butland only had one save to make and throughout the team there were some very good individual performances."

Spooner's side now face two extremely tough tests as they travel to Villa and Leicester in their next two fixtures.
