BLUES RES 1 WOLVES RES 4
Colin Doyle was the only senior pro to play the full game whilst Mehdi Nafti and Nigel Quashie completed 45 minutes and Quincy came off early in the second half. The latter came close to opening the scoring after running half the length of the pitch and seeing his shot turned aside by visiting keeper Wayne Hennessey. But after that early promise, it was a strong Wolves side, containing at least nine players with first team experience, which dominated proceedings and built up a two-goal advantage by midway into the first half courtesy of goals from Dave Edwards and Sam Vokes. Soon afterwards Blues right back Jared Wilson was forced to hobble off with a thigh injury after being on the receiving end of a strong challenge from George Friend, which earned the Wolves player a yellow card. Nafti won a free kick just after the half-hour mark which he took himself and his goal-bound effort was saved by Hennessey. The Black Country visitors extended their lead two minutes after the break through Denes Rosa before Blues sub Michael McKerr had a shot turned onto the bar by Wolves replacement keeper Matt Murray. From the resultant corner, Murray was called into action again to parry away Quincy's shot and, from the follow-up, Jake Jervis blasted over when he maybe should have hit the target. After Mark Davies had scored Wolves' fourth of the afternoon, Blues hit back when Mitch McPike fired home a fierce 25-yard free kick following a deliberate trip on Robert Gradwell. That completed the scoring in what was a good learning exercise for many of Terry Westley's Academy scholars. Blues: Doyle, Wilson (Rutter 24), Timmins, J Rowe, Anderson, Quincy (Hronec 56), Nafti (McKerr 46), Quashie (M McPike 46), Aydilek, Kodalak (Gradwell 54), Jervis.
