BLUES RESERVES 3 SPURS RESERVES 1
In what were extremely blustery conditions, a young Blues second string comfortably matched their North London opponents in the behind-closed-doors friendly. The game also saw full back David Murphy complete just over half the game as he makes his way back to fitness following a knee injury. Blues' goals came courtesy of Jacob Hronec, Jared Wilson and Charlie Kodalak. Spurs began the game brightly and had the first two efforts on target, before Terry Westley's side took the lead midway through the first half. Left back Murphy made a surging run down the wing before crossing the ball deep into the Spurs box. Kodalak saw his goalbound header pushed over the bar from a corner. From the resulting dead ball Hronec was able to get to the cross ball first and lash it home from close range.
Going into the half time break Murphy tested the Spurs keeper with a low effort from the edge of the 18 yard box which was well saved. Within 30 seconds of the restart, Blues had an excellent opportunity to regain their advantage when Mitch McPike's completed a mazy run down the left wing. The midfielder beat his man before putting in an inch perfect cross to the far post for Hronec, but unfortunately the Slovakian under 17 international failed to control his volley and blasted the ball wide. A great piece of play then saw Blues take the lead on 53 minutes. Crisp interplay involving Ashley Sammons, McPike and Jared Wilson saw Wilson beat the Spurs offside trap before smashing the ball past the advancing keeper. The third and decisive goal arrived just before the hour mark for Blues. Kodalak connected with Semih Aydilek's right wing cross and sent his left footed shot past the Spurs keeper from ten yards out with the help of a post. Blues: Doyle, Wilson, Murphy (Timmins 56 (Rutter 84)), M McPike, J Rowe, Anderson, Hronec (McKerr 72), Sammons, Gradwell (Jervis 77), Kodalak (O'Brien 72), Aydilek.
