BLUES HELD BY HARRIERS
The Irishman was the stand-out performer in a Blues side that also included fellow new boy Robin Shroot along with Colin Doyle, Martin Taylor, Damien Johnson and Kemy Agustien. Harriers, with former Blues midfielder Mark Yates barking instructions from the sidelines, provided stern opposition. Yates's Blue Square Premier charges put up a highly creditable performance, fielding none of their weekend starting XI although they did have former Welsh international Andy Johnson lining up in the centre of park. Blues had their own set of triallists with three young players hoping to impress watching boss Alex McLeish and his management team.
The hosts took the lead on 15 minutes after Johnson was tripped on the edge of the box and Agustien curled a low right-footed free kick around the wall and in off the post from 25 yards. Semih Aydilek and Johnson both had shots saved by Harriers keeper Dean Coleman before the visitors drew level on the half-hour mark. Centre back Luke Jones tapped home from eight yards after an accurate low free kick from the right by Darryl Knights. Fahey had two efforts either side of half-time, a far post header and a fierce shot straight at Coleman, as Blues looked to regain the advantage.
The best chance of a decisive third goal of the game came from the visitors as McDermott put Sam Foley clean through but the youngster skied his shot over the bar with only Doyle to beat. Fahey was certainly the player to benefit most from the game and did his first team chances no harm at all with an energetic and creative display.
