LEAMINGTON 3 BLUES RES 2

Omar Bogle
Omar Bogle scored Blues' first equaliser
A very young Blues side went out of the Birmingham Senior Cup this evening in heartbreaking fashion as a 92nd minute strike from Leamington put the home team through to the next round.

In fairness it was a deserved victory for the non-league club who had carved out the better opportunities and bossed much of the game.

Mark Bellingham gave the Zamaretto Premier Division side the lead but Omar Bogle restored parity on a rare breakaway from the visitors just before half-time.

The Warwickshire hosts regained the lead through Chris Murphy but Blues refused to fold and Brice Ntambwe brought the game to stalemate again with 14 minutes remaining.

But the tie was settled two minutes into injury time when Luke Corbett broke away and kept his cool to fire past Jack Butland.

The home side were playing their first home game under the charge of new boss Paul Holleran and a healthy crowd of over 800 filed through the New Windmill Ground turnstiles for the visit of Premier League Blues.

The visitors named a youthful team with Lee Carsley the only senior professional on show while the hosts included former Blues trainee Liam Reynolds in their ranks.

The game's first real chance of note came on 18 minutes and it was a golden opportunity for Blues to open the scoring.

Lee Carsley played a delightful ball with the outside of his foot into the path of the onrushing Luke Hubbins who did everything right as he rounded the home keeper but somehow construed to fire wide with the goal gaping.

Leamington responded with a fierce long-range effort from Luke Corbett that fizzed inches wide of Jack Butland's right hand post.

The hosts' best opening of the first half came after the referee missed a clear handball in the centre circle and full-back Michael Tuohy forged forward and fashioned a shooting chance that was saved at the second attempt by Butland.

Butland came to Blues' rescue twice in the matter of a minute. Firstly he stopped a point-black range shot from Leamington captain Bellingham after a cross by Adam Cooper.

Then Bellingham made himself a yard of space on the right of the area but his shot was plucked out of the air by Blues' England youth international.

But the home side's pressure finally told on 33 minutes when Bellingham again fired a vicious shot from the right side of the area that Butland did his best to push out but the ball hit the post and bounced into the net.

The Brakes could have doubled their lead when Bellingham again latched onto a ball through the centre of the Blues defence and he went around Butland but saw his shot scrambled away from the line by schoolboy Mitch Hancox.

Bogle was the brightest spark in the visitors' side during the opening half and the first year scholar equalised against the run of play two minutes before the break.

The young striker picked up the ball 40 yards from goal and set off on a mesmerising run that ended with a right-footed shot from the edge of the area that bounced past Chris Kiely into the bottom right corner of the net.

It was harsh on Leamington who had dominated the game for large periods only to be denied by the heroics of Butland and the teams went in level at the interval.

Brice-Ntambwe
Brice Ntambwe levelled the scores again on 76 minutes.
Corbett was the first to test Butland during the early stages of the second half with a curling effort that looked to be flying just wide of the post but the Blues keeper didn't take any chances and his fingertip save took the ball out for a corner.

Stuart Herlihy shot just wide for the hosts while Bogle and Gombala both saw efforts blocked during a frantic start to the second half.

Holleran's charges regained the lead on 58 minutes as Murphy collected a loose ball inside the area and finished clinically with his left foot from ten yards.

USA youth international Will Packwood was introduced to the action with half an hour to play and his block denied Murphy a second goal.

Both keepers made crucial saves in the space of 20 seconds midway through the half. First Kiely saved well with his legs after Bogle raced clear on goal and then Butland came out and smothered a Corbett shot.

More trickery from Bogle threatened to undo the home defence but the striker's shot was blocked but Blues were not to be denied another leveller.

On 76 minutes Robin Shroot twisted and turned on the left side the box before teeing up half-time sub Ntambwe who kept his composure to side-foot home with his right foot from 15 yards.

An entertaining game was finally decided when Corbett raced through and fired past Butland two minutes into added time.
