Accomplished performance - Richard Beale was happy with his side's showing against Shamrock Rovers

Blues Reserves completed a 3-0 win against Shamrock Rovers in a behind-closed-doors friendly at Wast Hills this afternoon.

The League of Ireland Premier Division side are currently in the UK on a pre-season tour.

All of Blues' goals came in the second half, with Akwasi Asante, Enric Valles and Mitch Hancox on target for Richard Beale's side.

The match also gave the club the opportunity to give playing time to four unnamed trialists.

Reserve team boss Beale was pleased with the application and professionalism showed by his young side.

"The first half was played at a good intensity and with a real edge to it, which is the sort of test we want for our players," said Beale.

"There wasn't a lot of space in midfield, so the boys had to move and rotate and get the ball and move it quickly, which is obviously what they'll come up against in Championship football.

"It was good end-to-end football and both teams had a couple of good chances before the break.

"In the second half we pressed very well and managed to find some space and scored three good goals.

"Akwasi Asante's shot was deflected past the goalkeeper to make it 1-0 and then on the hour mark Ricky (Enric) Valles doubled our advantage when he put the ball right into the top corner from 20 yards.

"For the third goal Mitch Hancox has made a good overlapping run and got into the box, and then shot past the goalkeeper leaving him with no chance."

Beale's side were up against a much more experienced outfit, but he was happy with the way they rose to the challenge.

"I was pleased that they produced such a professional performance," he said.

"We had a young team out and our oldest player was 22.

"The boys looked like senior players, which is what we want, and they didn't get bullied against a team that were in the UEFA League last year and played Tottenham twice home and away and did really well at White Hart Lane.

Ashley Sammons
The full 90 - Ashley Sammons completed his first 90 minutes of football in 16 months

"Shamrock made us work hard and our boys had to get everything spot on to achieve that result.

"The whole back four and the trialist goalkeeper looked fairly accomplished.

"I was also delighted to see Ashley Sammons complete his first 90 minutes of football in 16 months since his recovery from his cruciate injury."
