CUP SEMI-FINAL SECOND LEG PREVIEW

sammonsAcademy manager Terry Westley takes his Blues U18 side to Anfield this evening for the FA Youth Cup semi-final second leg against Liverpool looking to restore some pride.

The Merseyside outfit overran Blues in the opening stages of last week's game at St. Andrew's, scoring three times without reply in the first half-hour, leaving Westley's charges with a mountain to climb to try and get back into the tie.

There were no further goals in the first leg and Blues head into the return match looking to whittle down a 3-0 deficit.

Westley admitted: "I was massively disappointed and angry that we didn't do ourselves justice in the first leg.

"It was a big opportunity for the players and we are a far better team than we showed on that night.

"People said that we were overawed and nervous but they have to get over that.

sheldon"We'll go up to Anfield and try and regain a little pride and get something from the match.

"I want the boys to try and win the second leg, whether it be 1-0, 2-1 or 3-2. That is the aim for this evening, but if we can get the first goal in the game then who knows what might happen?"

Midfielder Mitch McPike echoed those sentiments that the team have 'nothing to lose'.

"We showed against Crewe when we came back from two goals down that anything can happen if you keep going at it," said the 17-year-old.

"Liverpool will obviously be a different kettle of fish to Crewe but we have nothing to lose.

"The atmosphere was down in the dressing room after the first game but we can't afford to drown in our sorrows.

"We need to go to Anfield with the belief and confidence that we can get some kind of result."

mcpikeIt is a fantastic opportunity for the Blues kids to turn out at Liverpool's main ground with its magnificent history and tradition.

And youth coach Steve Spooner wants his lads to make the most of what could be a once-in-a-lifetime chance.

"I hope the players will be inspired by playing at Anfield," added Spooner.

"They have just got to make sure they don't see it as 'This is Anfield' and the fear comes in, because that's what cost them in the first leg in the opening 20 minutes.

"We watched the DVD and we weren't as bad as we thought we were. It was just that we gifted them the three goals."

We will bring you a match report on the site after tonight's game but anyone with access to Setanta Sports can watch the action live, kick-off 7.45pm.
