EXCLUSIVE CARSON YEUNG INTERVIEW

Carson Yeung
Carson Yeung with Blues chairman David Gold at St. Andrew's this evening.
New Blues co-owner Carson Yeung speaks exclusively to the official website this evening after completing his purchase of 29.9 per cent of the shares in Birmingham City Football Club.

What were the main factors behind your decision to buy into Birmingham City Football Club?
I feel it was my destiny to come to Birmingham City. It is a dream come true for me to be here. Birmingham as a city has a big Chinese population and Birmingham itself is a big club.
When I came to the game against Luton last season I really enjoyed the atmosphere and that was one of my main motivations for coming into the club.
I just love football

What do you hope to achieve here at Birmingham?
I will try my very best to make Birmingham City successful.
Our target for next season is to stay up in the Premiership and in the long term I hope that we can get into Europe.
I want this club to get into the Champions League and become internationally recognised.

Tell us a bit more about your love for the game and football in China?
I have loved football since I was a child.
My family were very poor and we didn't have any money to see the football games but I loved the sport.
I think football should be for everybody, not just the rich man.
I am very excited about being involved with a Premier League club because it is the top league in the world.
The people in China are crazy about the English Premier League. There is a massive market out there.
I want to take the name of Birmingham City to a worldwide audience.

I understand that you played in a football game yourself yesterday?

Yes. It was fantastic. I played in a charity game in Kettering alongside players such as Christian Karembeu and Les Ferdinand.
I played in midfield and we won the game!

Are you looking forward to working with Steve Bruce?
I have great confidence in Steve and I think he can take the club forward. I haven't been able to speak to Steve yet but I will do so shortly.

You have bought 29.9 per cent of the club. Are you interested in taking over total control of the club at some time in the future?
It is too early to say.

How much involvement will you be having with the day-to-day running of the club?
I will be spending a certain time participating in club matters but I do not want to interfere with everything that is good with the club.
I just want to get behind the team and hopefully help the club be successful. I will try to get to all the games as I just love soccer!

Finally do you have a message for the Birmingham fans?
I promise that I will do my very best for the club.
I want to stress to the fans that I have not come here to make money. It is purely for my interest in football. I love the club and I love football. I will try my best not to let down the supporters.
