PHILLIPS - IT'S BEEN A GREAT WEEK FOR US
Kevin Phillips says he is delighted with the seven point haul Blues have collected from their last three games.
The striker hit the only goal in Saturday's victory against QPR to add to the draw away at Derby in midweek and the win away at Cardiff the previous weekend.
And with Wolves being beaten away at Swansea on Saturday, the three points against the R's saw Blues climb to the top of the Championship ahead of the two-week international break.
"This has been a great week for us with three tough matches and to come out of it with seven points is tremendous for Birmingham city," said Phillips.
"It's too early to say if we've got promotion within us.
"But the reason I joined this club is for the chance of getting promotion.
"It's still early days and we're not going to get too carried away but it's been a fantastic start for us.
"We need consistency now.
"I think the league showed last year that wasn't a great deal of consistency from any team.
"West Brom won the league but we only won it in the last two or three weeks of the season so if you can put a consistent run together in this league you stand a fair chance.
"It's already been proved that every team can beat every team so if you can get a decent run together that's the key."
Saturday's start against The R's was Phillips' first for Blues in five League outings and the player admits he would like to be playing more regularly.
"I was prepared for rotation," he said.
"I want to start as many games as I can and I'm disappointed that I haven't started as many games as I want.
"But all I can do is when I do start games or come on is prove myself and score and make it difficult for him (the manager) to leave me out .
"It's the same as any of the other strikers but hopefully I'll maybe get a few games on the bounce."
The former West Brom man is 35 now, however he says his desire to do well is as a strong as it ever was and he is desperate to test himself one last time in the Premiership
"When I first came here I said I wanted to be challenging for promotion," he added
"At this stage in my career you keep driving on because you know you haven't got that long left.
"When I'm finished maybe at the end of next season, when I'll probably call it a day, you're a long time retired, so I've got to enjoy it as much as I can.
"Hopefully I can have one more crack at the Premiership.
"People raised their eyebrows when I turned the deal at West Brom down, but I believe that by coming here that I will get another crack at it and hopefully I'll prove myself right at the end of the season.
"There's still a long way to go so let's not get carried away, but we'll enjoy the break now."
