BLUES IN FA YOUTH CUP ACTION AGAINST CREWE

Youth Cup logoBlues under 18's are in FA Youth Cup action at Solihull Moors this evening (Monday) as they host Crewe in their 4th Round tie.

The match kicks off at the Damson Parkway venue at 7pm.

Admission to the game is £4 for adults and £2 concessions for all fans.

Blues Academy manager Terry Westley believes that the tie has given his side an excellent opportunity to reach the final 16 of this year's competition where they would face either Cardiff or Tranmere away.

"Crewe at home is a good draw, especially when you look at the teams that are still in it, the likes of Man City, Liverpool and even Wolves and Crystal Palace," said Westley.

"Palace have got a good side. They've got a lot of second years and a lot of players who have played in the first team so if they can get all their players out there they will take some beating - they have Ipswich away next."

Blues and Crewe are quite familiar to each other having played a pre-season fixture during the summer.

Although Westley revealed that it will be a very different Blues side that takes to the field this evening.

"We had a bit of a mixture in our team that day.

"People like Ashley Sammons, Mitch McPike and Jake Jervis were not involved because the senior team were playing friendlies on the Sunday, so we were short of bodies and lost 2-0.

"We'll have a much stronger side out this time and it's one that you think will be a nice football match.

"It's at home and it should be a game that suits us. I'm looking forward to it.

"It's a tough game but a winnable one and the boys have got every chance to get through to the last 16 - then it gets a little bit tasty."

Crewe have already beaten Carlisle, Stockport and Bury to reach the fourth round while Blues have only had one hurdle to overcome, a home tie with Lincoln City.

Westley's side eventually stumbled past the Imps with a Luke Hubbins goal in extra-time sealing a 2-1 victory.

"The one really positive thing I can say about our team from the Lincoln game was that when we had to dig in we managed to get the result," said the Academy boss.

"We did have a very young side, only three or four second years and the rest were first years or schoolboys.

"We were missing Jordon Mutch, Robert Gradwell, Dan Preston and Jamie Sheldon through injury so we were pleased in the end to get through to the next round."
