Robin Shroot in action on his debut against Wolves |
New signing Robin Shroot says he was surprised and delighted at his inclusion against Wolves on Tuesday evening.
The 20-year-old made his debut for Alex McLeish's side in the 3rd Round tie, just weeks after signing from non-league outfit Harrow Borough.
The winger also put in arguably one of the best performances in a Blues shirt against Mick McCarthy's side and he also went close to scoring.
"It was a very pleasant surprise," said Shroot.
"When the manager announced the team in the pre-match and I saw my name on the board, I was excited, I thought it wicked.
"My mom and dad were at the ground and I texted them before the game and gave them a nice surprise."
Prior to running out on the field in front of the biggest crowd of his career the Northern Ireland U21 international was given plenty of encouragement by boss Alex McLeish.
"He just said he was putting me in, he believed in me, and to go and enjoy myself and keep it simple, get on the ball," added Shroot
"As a player, when someone who has managed at the highest level tells you to go and find the ball, it's what you want to hear.
"When I had my first touch, I heard the fans behind me and it was just 'wow - more of that please!'
"When you get the ball and you are playing with some players who have been in the Premier League all their life, you just know you're going to get the service.
"They are there behind you, and you just have to go out and play with a smile on your face, which is the way I've been brought up."
