Joe Hart has spoken of his pride at being involved in yesterday's tribute to former Blues legend Gil Merrick.

Hart laid a special commemorative wreath in the goal mouth in front of the Gil Merrick Stand before the Wolves game in recognition of the former Blues stopper, who passed away last week.

And Wolves keeper Marcus Hahnemann kindly performed the same gesture in front of the Tilton Road end.

The wreath laying was just one of a number of things that the club did to recognise Gil's contribution to Blues over many years.

"He (Gil Merrick) was a massive part of the club's history, playing for England as a Birmingham goalkeeper, which is something I aspire to do," said Hart

"It's a sad time but from what I understand he had a good life, 88 years, so it was a good memorial for him.

"It was special to be able to lay the wreath and give thanks for what he did for the club.

"I understand that he's got a lot of admirers, a lot of people think a lot of him, myself included, so it was nice to be a part of that.

"Wolves fans were very good as well, that's the end that I walked down to and they were very respectful which really helps in situations like this and it brings everybody together."
