MCLEISH'S WHOLESOME PRAISE

Blues boss McLeish watches his side at the Reebok StadiumBoss Alex McLeish was full of praise for his squad's efforts over the course of a campaign that has seen Blues record their highest top flight finish since 1959.

Speaking after the 2-1 defeat at Bolton, Big Eck also paid tribute to the club's loyal band of supporters - not least the 4,220 who travelled to the north west and backed their side to the hilt throughout at the Reebok Stadium.

McLeish was a tad disappointed to lose the final game of the season, but extremely proud to have earned a ninth place Premier League finish on the club's return to the top flight.

He told bcfc.com: "I've always believed this group of players would stay in the Premier League. I think it's fair to say that we've exceeded expectations but I always knew we had the spirit and mentality to have a successful season.

"I had a little whinge at the players for a few minutes in the dressing room after the game at Bolton but it was only a short one and it soon became all smiles because of what we have achieved over the course of the campaign.

"The magnificent group of supporters - who have been in great voice for us home and away ever since August - never stopped making noise all afternoon at the Reebok and I would like to thank them for their loyalty and backing today and throughout the season."

McLeish is wasting no time in putting plans in place for next season and told the official club website that preparations will continue right through the closed season.

"The Blackberry will be on all summer, that's for sure. It's going to be a busy time - there's very little rest for the wicked in this job.

"But it's all about preparation and being ready to take on the challenge of the Premier League once again come August."
