Jack Butland
Jack Butland in action for England
Talented young keeper Jack Butland cut an impressive figure as he took to the stage to pick up his Young Player of the Year award at Birmingham ICC on Monday night.

The England youth international was all smiles as he was awarded the gong - and it's a beam that was a constant on the face of the friendly 17-year-old throughout the 2009-10 season.

As well as representing his country the Bristol-born stopper has made great strides forward on both the Academy and reserve team fronts, so landing a trophy at Blues' end of season showpiece dinner was the icing on the cake.

Butland told bcfc.com: "It was a great honour to be presented with the award. They say that what you put into this game you get out of it.

"I've really enjoyed this season. I've worked really hard and tried my best with great help from everyone at the club - all the Academy and first team staff - who have given me tips.

"As well as playing for England at youth level I have progressed through the Academy and into the reserves, as well as signing my first professional contract.

"It has all come this season and all come really fast but I have enjoyed every minute of it.

"I will keep my feet on the ground and keep working hard."

Butland paid special tribute to goalkeeping coach Dave Watson and to the triumvirate of international keepers he worked alongside day in, day out throughout the campaign - Colin Doyle, Maik Taylor and Joe Hart.

"Working with Dave (Watson) every day is excellent because he's such a great coach. He has got so much knowledge of the game and having him as a coach has got me to where I am so it has been a great year.

"The three keepers I had in front of me have so much experience and are such great lads that they have been a tremendous influence.

"I'd like to take this opportunity to wish Joe (Hart) a fantastic World Cup. He's a great lad who deserves all the success in the world."
