The ball-playing midfielder joined Blues in the summer of 2007 from Derby County after the club paid the Rams compensation for services.
He made his Blues first-team debut as a substitute in the second-round League Cup defeat at Southampton on 26 August 2008, which made him the club's second-youngest debutant of all time, after Trevor Francis.
However, he missed the majority of the 2008/09 season because of fractures in both feet caused by rapid growth, but the problem was resolved by surgery and rest.
Mutch joined League Two side Hereford United in November 2009 for a month on a Football League Youth Loan registration in a bid to gain valuable first team experience.
During his time at Edgar Street he made four appearances for the Bulls, before returning to St. Andrew's at the start of January 2010.
He then went out on loan again to Championship side Doncaster Rovers at the end of January 2010 for the remainder of the season.
Mutch had his third stint out on loan during the 2010/11 season, when he linked up with Watford. During his time with the Hornets he became a firm favourite with the Watford fans and scored five times in 24 appearances, before returning to St. Andrew's.
