Sharon and Ben Sambrook |
Courageous young Bluenose Ben Sambrook and his family are VIP guests at tomorrow's game against Everton after club officials heard about the ten-year-old's amazing story.
Ben, from Aldridge, battled back to health from a brain tumour in 2007 and his fight inspired the formation of the SDBTT Ben Sambrook Fund.
March is Brain Tumour Awareness Month so it is apt that, to date, Ben and his relatives have raised over £72,000 for brain tumour research via the fund and recently the brave schoolboy deservedly picked up an Express and Star Local Hero award during a ceremony at Wolves' Molineux Stadium.
Ben has shown remarkable character in both fighting the illness and in helping to raise vital funds since and so Blues decided to invite him to Saturday's game, with a behind the scenes tour before the match, as part of the Our City, Our Vision project to show how proud we are of him.
He will attend the Toffees fixture with his grandfather, parents Sharon (pictured above with Ben) and Steven and sister Emily.
Blues' PR and Communications Officer Chris Kershaw said: "Who could fail to be touched by Ben's story? He truly is an inspiration to us all and inviting him to today's game is the least we could do.
"Let's hope we can give Ben plenty to smile about in the form of a Blues win but regardless of what happens on the pitch we'll make sure he has a wonderful day at St. Andrew's."
