Blues strengthened their midfield ranks by securing the services of Crystal Palace midfielder Darren Ambrose in July 2012 on a two-year deal with a further year's option.

The player joined the club for an undisclosed fee.

Harlow-born Ambrose was an extremely popular player with the Selhurst Park faithful during his three seasons with the South London outfit.

He began his footballing career with Ipswich Town in 2001 before his performances for the Tractor Boys saw him earn a move to Newcastle United in 2003.

In 37 appearances for the Magpies he found the back of the net five times, and also became a regular for England under-21s.

In 2005 he moved back down to the capital to link-up with Alan Curbishley at Charlton Athletic.

During his four year stay with the Addicks he made 112 appearances and scored 13 goals, before making the short move to Palace in 2009.

He really found his shooting boots in his first season with the Eagles as he scored an impressive 20 goals.

His goal return also got into double figures in the 2011/12 season with ten goals from his 42 appearances.
