Born in Amsterdam, Asante began his footballing career as an Academy player with Dutch side Haarlem.
At the age of 13 the striker moved to the UK with his family and was spotted by Blues scouts, who signed him to the club's Academy.
Asante is technically sound, strong, has an abundance of pace and an ability to score a goal.
During a single under 18s game against Spurs in October 2010, Asante scored five of the goals in a 6-0 win.
He made his first-team debut on 25 August 2011 as a late substitute in Blues' Europa League play-off second leg victory against Portuguese side CD Nacional.
At the end of December 2011 Asante joined League Two side Northampton Town on an emergency youth loan.
During his month-long stay with the Cobblers he made four appearances and scored one goal, which came in their 2-1 away win at Morecambe.
