Former Oldham Athletic defender Jonathan Grounds joined Blues in the summer of 2014 on a two-year deal.

Grounds operates predominantly as a left-back but can also stand-in at centre-back if required.

Born in North Yorkshire, he began his career at Middlesbrough, where he came through their academy system.

During his five-year professional spell at Boro he spent several periods out on loan with Norwich City, Hibernian, Chesterfield and Yeovil Town.

In 2012 he joined Oldham Athletic and during his two-year stint at the Latics made 106 appearances and scored three goals.

Grounds made his Birmingham City debut on the opening day of the 2014/15 Sky Bet Championship campaign away at Middlesbrough.

That same season he went on to make 47 appearances and score two goals.

During the 2015/16 Championship campaign, he went one better by making an impressive 48 appearances.
