Blues boss Lee Clark was well aware of Novak's capabilities having plucked the free-scoring Geordie out of non-league to sign for Huddersfield back in January 2009, before he was loaned back to Gateshead as part of that transfer.
Novak's goals helped fire Gateshead into the Conference National, and saw him pick up the club's 2008/09 season Player of the Year accolade in the process.
He went on to become an important member of the Huddersfield side that gained promotion to the Championship in 2012. During his time with The Terriers he scored 42 goals in 172 appearances.
Despite missing a number of games during his the 2013/14 campaign because of injury, Novak still managed to finish as the Blues' top goalscorer in his first season at the club, with 11 to his name.
