A product of Blues’ Academy, goalkeeper Nick Townsend signed for Blues at the age of 12.

A former pupil of Alderbrook School in Solihull, the stopper used to be a season ticket holder as a youngster along with his father.

Townsend has been a regular for the club's under-18 and under-21 sides and has been on the substitutes' bench for a number of the first team's games, but has yet to make his senior bow.

At the end of March 2013 Townsend joined non-league Oxford City on a youth loan deal, where he made five appearances during his short time at the club.

In February 2014, he joined Skrill Premier League side Lincoln City on a one-month youth loan, which was later extended until the end of the season. During his time at Sincil Bank, he made a total of 14 appearances.

In August 2014, Townsend was sent out on loan again for a second spell at Lincoln City. He made a total of 17 appearances for the Lincolnshire outfit before returning to St. Andrew's in January 2015.

In the summer of 2015, Townsend pen to paper on a two-year deal, plus a year’s option.
