Marc Roberts joined Blues from Barnsley on 1 July 2017 on a five-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The former Tyke’s captain played a vital role in Barnsley’s first season back in the Championship during the 2016/17 campaign, amassing 40 appearances at the heart of their backline.
A committed and determined centre-half, Roberts began his career with his hometown club Wakefield before enjoying further non-league spells with Worksop Town and Buxton.
His real rise to prominence began with a number of eye-catching displays for Conference Premier side Halifax Town.
During his two seasons in West Yorkshire, Roberts was linked with a move to a number of Football League Clubs - Blues also had their eye on him - but it was Barnsley who snapped up his services in the summer of 2015.
After signing a three-year deal at Oakwell, Roberts described himself as an “old-fashioned defender” who is “strong in the air and won’t lose many headers.”
The stopper went on to lift the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy and gain promotion to the Championship in his first season at the Club.
Roberts made his first appearance for Blues in the opening game of the 2017/18 in the 1-0 Championship defeat away at Ipswich Town.
During that first season with the Club he racked up a total of 35 appearances and scored one goal.
